Getting around Grenada

Bus: If you love a proper local experience, hop aboard the public buses. Full of chatter and music, bus rides in Grenada are more than a way to get from A to B! They run from 6 am to 9 pm Monday to Saturday, have a helpful conductor on board and are a great-value way to get around Grenada. Just be prepared for lots of stops and an unpredictable journey length!

Taxi: There are plenty of taxis in Grenada. They’re not metred, with flat fares for different destinations – check before you get in, and ask if there’s any flex on the price.

Water taxi: Feel the thrill of a motorboat skimming along and the mist of the sea spray on your skin as you zoom around the coast. Yep, private water taxis are Grenada’s most fun way to travel!

Ferry: Fancy a day trip to Carriacou, the nearest of Grenada’s sister islands? It takes 90 minutes to 2 hours by sea. Set your alarm for an early start – the daily ferry to Carriacou leaves St George’s at 9 am (and heads back at 3.30 pm).

Hire car: Driving is the easiest way to find the less visited sand spots in Grenada (like secluded La Sagesse Beach) and get to breathtaking highlights like the Welcome Stone hiking route on the east coast. But renting a car is also the most expensive way to travel around, and most roads are narrow, winding and bumpy. If you’re fine with that, check out our partner's Grenada car hire options, you’re in for an amazing adventure!

Where is Grenada?

Grenada is an island in the Caribbean West Indies, north of Trinidad and Tobago and south of St Vincent and the Grenadines. Its two little sister islands (Petite Martinique and Carriacou) are 2 to 3 hours away by ferry.

Lapped by the Caribbean Sea, Grenada’s west coast is where you’ll find St George’s and the most popular beaches. Over on the eastern shores of the island, you’ll dip your toes in the Atlantic Ocean instead. But don’t worry, the water’s lovely wherever you choose for a paddle!
